With this ship we find again a ro/ro of Framnæs
serie; this time the penultimate ship of the serie, last of those bought by
Union S.S. company of New Zealand and having the same age of the last ferry of
the serie, the “Tor Caledonia” of Tor Line, last known as the “Strada Gigante”
of Stradeblu. The first vessel of the serie, the “Tor
Gothia” which ended her career as the “Ulusoy 6” of Turkish Ulusoy Sea Lines, was delivered six
years before. Anyway, despite of those who happened to her sisters and, anyway,
to the best part of pure ro/ro vessels, she had a very regular life, also
without being lenghtened, like most of her sisters includine the fleet mate
“Aegean Sky” and another vessel actually in Greek hands, the “Filippos”. From
1977 to 1992 the ferry worked in the other side of the world, linking New
Zealand islands and Australia, being later on sale as the “Seaway”. After being
bought by Egyptian company Demline, she took the name “Fast Trader”, which was
unchanged until the sale to Kostas Agapitos, happened in 2001, when this ferry
became the first with the “Aegean Pearl” to serve under Aegean Cargo colours.
Both the beautiful livery, which was very similar to those of Agapitos Express
Ferries, and her service between Piraeus, Santorini and Heraklion were very
successful, and the company was able to expand itself, until ANEK chartered all
Aegean Cargo vessels in 2003, rerouting them on both Piraeus – Crete services
and leaving from Patras to Bari, Ancona and Porto Marghera. Later, the
international services worked only sometimes to Italy, sailing on Eastern Med
sea, mainly on Piraeus – Heraklion – Limassol – Haifa and Piraeus – Heraklion –
Limassol – Alexandria lines plus the services from Piraeus to the main Cretan
ports, Chania and Heraklion. From the end of ANEK charter, on December 2010, to
the sale for scrap, the ship remained laid up.
