Another one of the long Framnæs ro/ro
series, started her commercial sailings in 1974 for Tor Line; the good project
and quality of these ferries is testified both by the number of sisters
produced and by the great flexibility of the ferries, which were once lenghtened by about 50 metres. This ferry was also lenghtened by Tor Line in 1977, where the Vlissingen
Shipyards added 26,7 metres to the original hull. As long as it’s common to
this type of ferries, her career was divided between a great number of
operators, including Fred. Olsen
, Bore Line, Grimaldi and Sea-Link. After some years as the “Assi Scan Link” was
sold to Gorthon’s company Rederi
AB Transatlantic, engaged in sea crossings linking the two sides of Atlantic
Ocean. Sold in 2006 to Aegean Cargo after the arrival in the Swedish fleet of
the new “Transpaper”, was immediately reflagged to
St. Vincent & Grenadines without changing her name, joining the fleet
without an “Aegean” prefix. Soon chartered to Anek
Cargo to deploy Venice cargo services, was then chartered out to Greece to various
operators for different services; once during a trip to Barcelona on 21/12/06
she grouded damaging her hull and having a very bad
list. After joining the Spanish port avoiding the concrete risk of a sinking,
was repaired and re-entered service. The bad luck of this ship anyway continued
with a grounding at Nissyros island on 5th
March 2007, where the port side propeller was damaged. Finally renamed as
“Aegean Sky” on September 2007, was then chartered to Baltic Sea for a year;
returned to Greece, was scrapped in September 2010.
