CORFU
PANAGIOTAKIS
Corfu Fast Ferries, best known as Fast Ferries, was
established by the local shipowner Theologos Panagiotakis in 1999 as
the new brand of Panagiotakis family, already
operating landing crafts to Corfu. Some operators started few years before
introducing conventional ferries on Corfu – Igoumenitsa
run, competing with the traditional landing-crafts, and Mr Panagiotakis
decided to enter this new market sector with a former Japanese ferry, converted
under very high standards , previously unknown on this line; the “Ekaterini P.”, entering service, was also the far bigger
ferry between Corfu and Igoumentsa. The company is
very successful and in 2003 the company add a second ferry on its service, the
“Platitera”, slightly smaller than the previous one;
after three years another ferry joins the fleet as the new flagship: the “Theologos P” arrives in Greece in May 2006, carrying the
name of the shipowner, a big and fast ferry, which
entered service on Spring 2007 on Rafina – Andros –
Tinos – Mykonos line; on June of the same year the “Platitera”
was sold to Medmar of Italy, leaving the company with
only two ferries in service, employed on Corfu – Igoumenitsa
and Rafina – Cyclades routes.
