Line

The first “Nils Holgersson” of “TT Line”, employed on the link Trelleborg - Travemunde from 1962, was followed in Greece by the following two “Nils Holgersson” in 1994: the second one was named “European Pride”, then “Nettuno”, then “Hermes”; the third “Pollux” and then “Theofilos”. Substituted by the second “Nils Holgersson” in 1967, changed various names and services: Toulon - Porto Torres, for a French company on charter, then under her parent company ownership she connected Travemunde and Copenhagen, was engaged on cruises from Travemunde to Gdansk, Rönne, Leningrad and Visby, then in 1975 was renamed “Mary Poppins” for a planned Saint Malo – Southampton service, being also showed in London, but problems occurred with British and French worker unions stopped this plan and the “Mary Poppins” was back to her Baltic cruises. She arrived in Greek seas in 1976, purchased by a local company based in Ikaria and Samos, the Anonimi Naftiliaki Touristiki Etareia Samos Ikaria, better know as ANTESI. Due to financial problems of this company the ship was managed from 1985 to 1990 by Elliniki Aktoploia, a statal company created to manage ships of local companies affected by these kind of problems. Resold to Arkadia Lines in 1990, maintained the service to eastern islands was until November 4th,1996, when ramed and sunked a Greek Navy ship, the “Kostakos” in Samos waters, causing the death of four soldiers. After the reparations was arrested due to the investigation following the accidents, and she didn’t move again from Eleusis, also because the crisis of Arkadia Lines and the big age of the ship, replaced by the “Anemos” of Nomicos Lines. Originally in service four times a-week between Piraeus, Ikaria and Samos, diverting via Syros, Tinos or Myconos, she leaved Piraeus on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening and Saturday morning, returning from islands on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday evening, offering valid reasons to prefer her the “Milena” or “Dimitra” of GA Ferries rather than this ship. Was sold to scrap in June 2000 to Turkey.
