The “Aqua Jewel” was designed as a small cruise-ship; anyway her hull was laid up and the ferry remained in Drapetsona for some years before being completed for Alpha Ferries, but in a different way from the original plans, bearing three ramps at stern, two for the vehicles and one for foot passengers. She started her commercial services in 2003 sailing from Rafina to Andros, Tinos and Mykonos, calling sometimes on Summer also at Paros. In 2005 the company decided to lenghten the ferry by 12 metres at Lambda Shipyards of Greece; the overall lenght passed from 96,80 to 108,80 metres and also the livery was changed to a more darker blue instead of the previous sky-blue, plus the superstructure which became entirely white. In 2007 even Naxos enters on the company’s ports of call, but this service lasted only to the end of 2009: the ferry was later chartered to Nel Lines, where she operates out of Lavrion.
