Line

Second vessel of a two-sisters series built for Lloyd Triestino by Orlando yards of Leghorn, which was preceeded by two other similar sisters built for Adriatica, started sailing under the name “Nuova Ventura” serving, with her sisters, the Europe (Leghorn, Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona) – Western Africa (Dakar, Abdijan, Lagos, Douala) line. In the middle of 80’s, Finmare, the parent company of Lloyd Triestino, decided to reorganize its cargo services, which included also the routes served by Adriatica and Italia di Navigazione, and this vessel was transferred to Venice-based Adriatica, maintaining her distinctive black hull, typical of Lloyd Triestino ships, but receiving the distinctive golden/white/red funnel of Adriatica, even if without the St. Mark’s Lion. This livery seemed to be a temporary one, but was maintained on the ship throughout her Adriatica spell, which lasted seven years, spent on Venice – Alexandria – Beirut – Limassol line until 1989, then, after the delivery of “Egizia” and “Fenicia” from Apuania Yards of Marina di Carrara, was laid up until her sale, in 1993, except for a couple of months linking Venice and Bari for Società Italiana di Cabotaggio, a joint-venture between Adriatica and private investors. Sold to Greek interests, the ship changed four different ownerships in five years, and finally, in 1998, was chartered under the name “Françoise” to Gaelic Ferries, linking Rosslare to Cork and Brest. In 2002 the ferry was bought by Kostas Agapitos, which deployed her on its Aegean Cargo services, as the “Aegean Glory”, serving Crete and Santorini. Soon chartered by ANEK to serve on the same lines, in 2006 was delivered back to Agapitos, which intended to replace her with bigger tonnage; the “Aegean Glory” was then sold to Istanbul Lines as their “Marmara N”, where she served her last five years, before being scrapped at Aliaga in 2011.
