The “Corriere del Nord” is the second of four sister vessels built by Orlando yards for Italian State-owned companies, two for Adriatica, and two for Lloyd Triestino. She was mainly serving the Eastern Mediterranean routes, sailing from Genoa and Venice to Piraeus, Alexandria, Beirut, Lattakia, Limassol, Aqaba. The career under Adriatica colours was surprisingly short, ending in 1979, when she was sold with her sister to Grimaldi Group. Under Grimaldi ownership the vessel was lengthened by 20 metres, probably in Jugoslavia, even if I’ve not any sure notice of it. After some sales she finally came under Greek ownership in 1994, being sold to Halkydon Shipping as their “Filippos”, remaining there for ten years before being sold to Saos Ferries. Subsequently renamed “Agios Efstathios”, was sailing between Piraeus, Chios and Mytilene for a short period, then on early 2006 was newly sold to Libanese interests and renamed “SM Spyridon” until her scrap in 2012.
