Line |
First Adria Ferries-owned vessel, was
bought in July 2004 from Adriatica. Originally
serving Trans Tirreno Express routes ad the “Espresso Cagliari”, was wearing Adriatica
colours from 1976 to 2004, being renamed from “Espresso Egitto”
to “Egitto Express” after the refit which
substantially altered its well-known classic line in 1991. After the purchase
by Adria Ferries on 26th July, 2004 the ferry was renamed “Riviera
del Conero”, a name obviously chosen to remind the
origins of Adria Ferries owners, a pool of businessmen of Ancona and Marche
district; the name of the ferry is the name of Ancona coast; moreover the
Italian flag was abandoned to join the Panama one. During her eight-year period
as “Riviera del Conero” she had an ordinary career,
serving the Ancona – Durres line almost always, except for a period between
2005 and 2006, when she was afflicted by some technical problems. Sometimes
serving also the Bari – Durres line after her inauguration in December 2008,
was later converted to comply to the Stockholm Agreement and, in 2012, she was
reflagged to Italy, being also renamed “AF Michela”. Since then, she continued
serving Ancona line, sailing along the new fleet-mate “AF Marina” and serving
sometimes also Bari. In 2015, there were strong rumours about a sale of this
ferry to Siremar, the former State-owned company, now
privatized, which serves the small islands around Sicily, but despite of those
rumours, the “AF Michela” was sold in April to Traghetti delle
Isole and renamed “Lampedusa”, planning to serve on a
daily basis the islands of Lampedusa and Linosa from
Porto Empedocle; this anyway happened only after a
long period of repairs, which lasted until January 22nd, 2016. Soon after,
was moved to another Traghetti delle Isole link, the line between Trapani and Pantelleria island, a service where the ferry is still
running except for a period between November 2017 and April 2019, when she was
off-duty due to engine troubles.
