Il panorama di Igoumenitsa, nel 1994, era ben diverso: si attraccava ad
un porto che era la minima parte di quello odierno, del quale non era stata
posata neppure la prima pietra. Senza parlare dell’autostrada Egnatia, che oggi si scorge chiaramente, e che a
differenza di quei tempi, ha contribuito a rendere Igoumenitsa
la destinazione principale per i turchi che, dall’Europa continentale,
raggiungono in estate il loro paese. La SILVER PALOMA, ritratta nel porto
dell’Epiro l’01/07/1994, era allora il traghetto greco più anziano, costruito
nel 1957 per le Ferrovie della Germania Orientale. Non esiste più nulla:
nave, compagnia, Stato di costruzione, il vecchio porto. SCOMPARSI MISSING The Igoumenitsa landscape, in 1994, was far different:
neither the foundation stone of the actual port existed, and the ferries
moored at a small quay, nor the Egnatia odos, which appears from far nowadays and contributes to
the heavy passenger traffic to and from Igoumenitsa,
which is the main destination for Turkish workers coming home from
Continental Europe during Summer. The SILVER PALOMA, pictured there on July 1st,
1994, that time was the oldest Greek ferry, built in 1957 for East Germany
Railways. Nothing exists anymore today: the ship, her original country, the
company, the old port. |
